Accreditation & Compliance

SIP Accreditation

Safe Isolation Provider accreditation enables Metering Equipment Managers to legally de-energise and re-energise electricity supplies without DNO appointments.

What is SIP Accreditation?

Safe Isolation Provider (SIP) is a role under the Retail Energy Code (REC) that allows Metering Equipment Managers (MEMs) to de-energise and re-energise electricity supplies at the cut-out without requiring DNO attendance or supplier appointment.

The SIP role was introduced in June 2023 following the implementation of REC Change Proposals R0021/R0101.

Why SIP Matters

Traditional installations require a DNO visit to isolate the supply before work can begin. This creates:

  • Scheduling delays of 2-4 weeks waiting for DNO availability
  • Increased costs from multiple site visits
  • Customer frustration from extended installation timelines
  • Lost revenue from reduced installation capacity

With SIP accreditation, qualified engineers can perform isolations themselves.

Requirements for SIP Accreditation

To become a Safe Isolation Provider, your organisation must:

  1. Be REC accredited as a Metering Equipment Manager (MEM)
  2. Hold EMO qualification (Electricity Metering Operative) under CoMCoP
  3. Accede to DCUSA (Distribution Connection and Use of System Agreement)
  4. Implement market messaging for industry notifications
  5. Obtain Role Code "Y" from the BSC for SIP operations
